There was an apprehension Wednesday evening as unknown gunmen on Motor Bike shot dead a lady (POS operator) in her early twenties at Oke-Ogba area of Akure, the Ondo state capital.
An eyewitness informed pressmen that the girl was operating a Point of Sales (POS) at Okeogba junction, off Agagu road in Akure.
This is coming in less than 24 hours after a middle aged worker of a publishing company located at Ajipowo an adjacent community, was also shot dead in a night robbery at the Ajipowo/Ogundipe Estate, off Ondo road/customs junction, Akure.
Cases of Armed robbery has been on the increase in recent time at areas like Ajipowo/Ogundipe, Shagari village, Ijoka among others in the state capital.
Policemen have been deployed to Okeogba where they killed the girl around 7:00pm Wednesday night.
The Witness said, “residents of Oke Ogba community along Agagu road in Akure were on Wednesday evening thrown into mourning as shop owners ran for safety when a fellow shop attendant (name withheld) was shot at a close range by unknown gunmen.”
The eyewitness revealed that the men who were on a motorcycle collected an undisclosed cash from the lady before shooting her.
The eyewitness who preferred anonymity said such robbery is becoming rampant in the area and called on the Nigeria police,vigilante groups to redouble there efforts in combing the area.
Another shop owner said the people are now living in fear, stressing that the robbery has affected commercial activities and movement of persons in the entire community.
When contacted the Ondo State Police Public Relation Officer, Mr Femi Joseph who confirmed the incident, said the force was working towards arresting the ugly incident in Akure.
