Hundreds of dignitaries from both academic and the society at large attended the funeral service of late professor Jerome Boluwaji Elusiyan an accomplished paediatrician and a consultant with Obafemi Awolowo teaching hospital Ile Ife Osun State, who was assassinated by unknown gunmen in Edo state on the 13th of December ,2019 while on official assignment.
Gathered at Okeigbo civic centre his home town to bid him farewell, were eminent citizens from across the land and beyond.
The officiating ministers from chapel of Grace, Obafemi Awolowo teaching hospital Ile Ife delivered the funeral sermons followed by tributes to the deceased from well wishers, beneficiaries of his foundations and colleagues.
Commensurating with the wife and children of late professor Elusiyan, the honorable member representing Ileoluji/Okeigbo State constituency in Ondo state house of Assembly, Hon. Engineer Festus Adefiranye said the late professor Jerome distinguished himself in the Medical profession, he described him as a pacesetter who has serviced his father land meritoriously until his untimely death by evil doers.
According to honourable Festus” this is one of the darkest phase in the history of our nation, it is quite regrettable and extremely painful that when some Nigerians are struggling and thinking about how to contribute to the nation’s development and working very hard to take care of their families and train children some evil men are busy planning to kidnap, intimidate and kill orders”
Hon. Adefiranye urged the security agencies to apply technical strategies in tackling insecurity across the country, he also advised Nigerians not to despair in the face of terror but to help the security agencies to combat crimes by giving them useful information to operate with.
Also speaking, the President of Okeigbo youth Parliament Mr Samson Agboola called for a thorough investigation into the assassination of the philanthropist, professor Jerome Boluwaji Elusiyan by unknown gunmen.
Agboola said number one priority of any government should be safety of lives and property, noting that keeping Nigeria safe and secure should also be a daily responsibility of both State and Federal Government.
Speaking in the same vein, a well wishers at the event also condemned the killing of the innocent professor by gunmen, they described the killing as an act of wickedness which all citizens of this country should condemn.
Other speakers at the occasion advised the government at all levels to create empowerment scheme and employment opportunities for the youths to put a stop to kidnapping, terrorism and killings by our youths, they called on Political class to stop using our youths as political thugs during elections noting that thousand of people who are benefiting from the late professor when he was alive are feeling his absence.
Some heartbroken sympathizers joined the last born of the deceased who emotionally refused to perform dust to dust at the graveyard, weeping uncontrollably when the lifeless body of his father was lowered to the grave.
