2019: DANKWAMBO’S DECLARATION SIGNALS THE DAWN OF A NEW ERA IN NIGERIA’S DEMOCRACY
It’s indeed a tragedy to watch the country of your birth leisurely tear itself apart in an untiring death march with short sighted leaders ruling over her affairs. Nigeria, that great country which first welcomed my half-opened new-born eyes no longer give me that feeling of the fresh air I felt at my juvenile age. Nigeria is no longer the nation I knew, nor the one from the stories I have heard.
Historically, the journey to Nigeria’s independence was a rough and tough one. However, some visionary personalities traversed it till the end, shedding their sweats for what we celebrate as independence today.
Sir Ahmadu Bello fought actively in the independent struggle of Nigeria. Bello’s greatest legacy was the modernization and unification of the diverse people of Northern Nigeria.
Chief Anthony Eromosele Enahoro was Nigeria’s foremost anti-colonial and pro-democracy activists. Enahoro was the first to move the motion for Nigeria’s independence and was usually referred to as the “Father of the Nigerian State”.
Chief Obafemi Jeremiah Oyeniyi Awolowo was a nationalist and a statesman who played a key role in Nigeria’s independence movement.
The only female on the list, Funmilayo Ransome Kuti, due to Ransome’s political activism she was described as the doyen of female rights in Nigeria, as well as “The Mother of Africa.
Chief Benjamin Nnamdi Azikiwe was one of the leading figures of modern Nigerian nationalism. Following the declaration of Nigeria as a republic, Dr Nnamdi fought relentlessly for an independent but unified Nigeria.
Alhaji Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, was a Nigerian politician, and the only prime minister of an independent Nigeria. As a legislator, he was a vocal advocate of the rights of northern Nigeria.
Nigeria’s founding fathers
Suffice it to say, is excruciating to see the labour and vision of our heroes past dying in our hands, while the men that have the capacity to lead right careless to intervene.
Increasing international attention to the grave crises affecting Nigeria has led many who know of my heritage to ask me about the situation, seeking insight on the country’s suffering, the country’s economy and the future that lies ahead for our children and generations yet unborn.
The problems don’t stop when it comes to crime. Beyond the perpetual worry for one’s life, the entire country, prone to rolling blackouts, a shortage of basic needs and necessities, unbelievably high cost of living instantaneously, and apparently insurmountable political gridlock.
To put it simply, Nigeria, the lion of Africa is falling apart.
Over the years, the leaders have sought for the proverbial golden egg in the quest methods and ideology have been used and misused all in trying to reach a common goal but to no avail.
James MacGregor Burns said, “Leadership is one of the most observed and least understood phenomena on earth.”
The only way to get Nigeria working again is beyond just wishes, because if wishes were horses every beggar will ride one. The right leaders must arise and take responsibility to salvage Nigeria.
Nevertheless, despite what seems as lost hope for Nigeria, hope was made alive today as the rear gem made public his intention to salvage Nigeria.
This took place in Gombe as Dankwambo had a decisive meeting with North East Conclave of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as all stakeholders involved have solidly agreed to support his bid for the Presidential ticket come 2019.
No matter what Nigeria is going through, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel with Dr, Dankwambo. It may seem hard to get but Nigeria can do it and we just must keep working towards it and we will find the positive side of Nigeria with Dankwambo. Struggling is hard because that’s what we are known for, and we never know what’s at the end of the tunnel for us. But with Dankwambo we are certain there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.
The question now is why Dankwambo?
