As Nigerians joined the rest of the world to celebrate this year’s workers day, President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated the commitment of his administration to improve the condition and welfarism of the Nigeria working class and the organized labour.
President Buhari who was represented by his vice ,professor Yemi Osinbajo stated this today in Abuja.
He noted that government is aware of the contributions and patriotism of Nigerian working people and organized labour saying the payment of the salary and pension is essential.
On his part, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Ayuba Waba who acknowledged the on-going review of the National Minimum Wage aimed at meeting the current economic realities also noted that the benefits of the new minimum wage cannot be re-emphasized saying overall increase in the minimum wage will raise the levels of productivity and enhance the purchasing power of workers
On his part, the President of Trade Union Congress, Comrade Bobboi Bala Kaigama called for concerted efforts to alleviate the pains of Union pointing out that it has been the shield of the oppressed workers in the country.
He also noted that four months into 2018, the National budget has not been passed saying it is counterproductive to the economy and makes the country a laughing stock in the eyes of the world.
Other key issues highlighted at the occasion include the challenge of unemployment,state of the economy, escalating poverty, spiralling inflation, security threat among others.
