Presenting the report in the Governor’s office in Akure, the Managing Director of Sunshine Ricemill, Mr Akeem Alade said the project was on course and that in no distant future Ondo State will join the league of mass rice producers in Nigeria.
The Managing Director who appreciated the governor for his support at ensuring that the project took off, said the encouragement of the governor has been the strength with which the management had surmounted some of the teething challenges encountered by the project.
While saying that within the next two months, the equipment for the 120 metric tons per day ricemill would arrive the country, he assured that no fewer than 250 rice farmers have been projected to explore the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Agro Borrowers’ Scheme to scale up their productions in rice faming to feed the mill.
He used the opportunity to express optimism that the estimated 3Tons of Rice from 500 Hectares of land was achievable having experimented the projection in Ogbese in Akure North Local Government Area.
In his response, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu reiterated the commitment of his administration to the successful delivery of the project .
Arakunrin Akeredolu said he was prepared to give all the needed support to make Ondo State join the “mass rice production club” in Nigeria.
The governor however directed the various agencies of government to come up with their action plans on the provision of the needed infrastructures to the Ricemill site in Igbaraoke.
The Deputy Governor, Hon Agboola Ajayi led top government functionaries who joined the governor to receive the Sunshine Ricemill Management which included a representative of the State Government on the board of the company, Hon. Kele Bolodeoku.
