The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC),Ondo State command on Wednesday says it has arrested a man dealing with illegal mining activities in the state.

Mr Pedro Awili, NSCDC state commandant, said this while parading the suspect before newsmen in Akure.

Awili said that the suspect  was arrested at  Laoso in Ondo west local government area of the state, noting that he had been dealing with illegal mining activities for long despite being warned by the community many times.

The NSCDC explained that the suspect had dug the ground looking for precious stones and other minerals used for jewelries.

“The suspect was getting money from the illegal activities which ought to have been paid to federal government of Nigeria.

” The suspect has a forged document to back up his illegal activities.

“And we all  know that  solid minerals activity is exclusively for federal government and there is no other body to regulate or license it.

“They have been warned to desist from such activities;those who have interest in mining have  been directed to apply for license from federal government not going through any enterprise somewhere else,”he said.

The NSCDC commandant quoted the suspect saying he had permit from particular ministry in the state since 2012.

According to him, NSCDC is in view to see  how economy of the nation can be restored especially now that there is dwidling  in the oil sector.

He added that the command also arrested a drug dealer with mask while he was riding motorcycle in the night loaded with two bags of cannabis.

In similar vein, Awili revealed that another set of suspects was arrested with locally made rifle and cartridges but two of them escaped.

“Though one of them said to be a farmer,
the bottom line is that he has confessed to doing business illegally inside government forest reserve in Ala,Akure .

“It was our men who are guarding the forest that arrested them and investigation is on going

“I believe that these are the people terrorising Ondo State residents, they got engage in armed robbery, kidnapping and other criminal activities,” he said.

Awili, therefore, imployed the people of the state to ensure that there is no any hidden place for criminals in the state, because NSCDC is bent to expose all criminals.

The 33 year-old  suspect, Madabuchi, said that he rigistered an enterprise for the activities with the  federal Ministry of mines in the state before starting the work.

He said that the document being given to him after paying N17,000  to the state office of federal ministry was forged as being alleged by NSCDC.
