The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has trained and empowered 110 women in cosmetology with the collaboration effort of the lawmaker representing Ondo East and West in the
House of Representative, Mr Joseph Akinlaja.
Mr Mayowa Aliu, the NDE state coordinator stated this during the graduation ceremony of the new trainees on Saturday in Ondo city.
Aliu, who said that the NDE had adopted various strategies over the years to combat the menace of unemployment in Nigeria said that the trainees were trained for two weeks for cosmetology all drawn from the constituency of Mr Joseph Akinlaja in Ondo East and West.
” 105 unemployed youths had undergone a two week intensive training in everything associated with cosmetology such as solid and liquid soap, perfume, air freshener, izal, insecticide, bleach, cream, shampoo,detergent and others.
“The beauty of this training exercise is to equip the trainees with the skills that enable them become self-employed,create wealth and turned employers of labour,”he said.
According to him, another set of 34 trainees are undergoing training in cosmetology, shoe and bag making at Ore and Akure under the mega training National Open Apprenticeship Scheme(NOAS).
Mayowa said that NOAS had involved the use of formal sector operators such as mastercraftmen and women as training outlets for unskilled youths to acquire the necessary skills.
The NDE coordinator, therefore, imployed the graduate trainees to avail themselves with the rare opportunity by translating what they had been taught during the trainig exercise into enviable reality.
He said that the lawmaker would empowered all the trainees with a sum of N20,000 each to start their own businesses.
“I wish to thank our distinguished honourable member of house of representatives, Honestly. Joseph Akinlaja for his unrelentless effort in securing this allocation to his constituency and wonderful support given for the success of this training exercise.
In his speech, Hon. Akinlaja said that the empowerment programme was one of his numerous efforts since he was elected as a lawmaker to representing his constituency from 2011 till date.
” I have a grace to give back to the people and I have done more than 350 projects within seven years that I have been elected as lawmaker from community development to urban renewal,”He said.
One of the trainees, a student, Miss Omotola Ogunsanmi, appreciated NDE and the lawmaker for giving her opportunity to be part of the programme.
“I count myself lucky for being among the beneficiaries because what I learnt from the programme, i do not have opportunity to learn it in the school,” she said.
