“The three major promises l will make to my people at Apapa are: l will get a befitting standard secetarite, Donate an operational bus branded in the name of Apapa National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) and capacity building for members”.
These and more were the words of the NAGAFF Apapa Chapter Chairmanship aspirant Alhaji Ibrahim Tanko, during his campaign rally which was held at Apapa, Lagos Nigeria where he called on NAGAFF Apapa members to embrace peace in the coming association chapter election.
While enlisting the current challenges members are facing in clearing their goods, he promised that it will be a thing of the past as he has put in place necessary steps to checkmate this isues. “Plans are on ground for staff welfare, where members can take loan to clear their cargoes and on high duties charges l will mediate as chairman to reduced the charges. I urged members to always have the interest of the association at heart because election will come and go but the association will still remain”.
According to him” let’s play marture politics and avoid bitterness as bitterness will disturb the growth of the Apapa NAGAFF, people should emulate what happened in the last general election after former President Jonathan lost election he cogratulated President Buhari there by promoting peace in the country”.
More so, “Let me use this opportunity to say that Apapa NAGAFF is one family, the election will come and go and the association will remain. So whether you win or loose. in an election one person must win take it in good faith. I want to use this opportunity to appeal to other contestant that are taking this election as if it is a do or die affairs to take it easy”.
Still, “as for me Tanko I am not taking it like that, I have already told the people what I will do for them if elected. I can remember what happened in our last election where the incumbent president lost.
He challenged aspirant to think more on what to do to better the lives of members instead of involving in election of malice.
“Why can’t we learn that fighting people and tearing posters will not help at all.
He also decried the way security agencies disturb agents for the content of the containers instead of disturbing the importers.
“SON and NAFDAC have the details of every importer in this country meaning that they know their address and their warehouses. So if there is any issue they can contact them directly instead of the agents. We have a lot of challenges”
On the issue of his successor the chairman saying that it is a very big shame that after all his tenure he was not able to get a secretariat for the association.
“The past chairman didn’t do well it is a shame a premier port like this we don’t have a secretariat. We don’t even have where members can make their complains it is part of my agenda in this coming election”
