Niger State commissioner for Health Dr. Jibril has said that Gov. Sani Bello is Rolling out Fundamental Reforms in Niger’s Health System, the commissioner also lauded the wife of the Governor for effectively playing the dual role of a caring mother and health ambassador.
Dr. Mustapha Jibril has said that the ministry of Health and her partners are working tirelessly to give full expression to the Governor Abubakar Sani Bello’s health restoration agenda, Niger Health 1.0 adding that, the administration has commensurately rolled out fundamental reforms in the health system in order to expand the absorptive capacity of the health sector to manage her multiple initiatives and interventions.
The commissioner was speaking at Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State during the 2018 flag-off of June/July maternal, newborn and child health, MNCH week
According to Dr. Jibril, the MNCH Week is a bi-annual event and the sixteenth round to be implemented by the State since 2010 when the National Council on Health resolved to adopt the supplementary activity as a strategy for addressing inequity in access and utilization of priority maternal, newborn and child health services in the country.
During the weeklong activity, integrated high impact Primary Health Care services will be provided at health facilities to improve the poor health indices of women and children in Niger State and the country at large.
“This administration has remained consistent in the implementation of the free MNCH Week in keeping with Governor Abubakar Sani Bello’s commitment towards improving the welfare and wellbeing of Nigerlites through health, education, agriculture, women and youth empowerment” the commissioner stressed.
In the build up to the 2018 MNCH week, the commissioner disclosed that public awareness and mass mobilization efforts were intensified through advocacy visits to traditional leaders, community engagement and use of town announcers. Stressing that, the number of participating health facilities have been increased to over 1,200, including those in the hard-to-reach communities, in order to ease accessibility and improve the coverage of services during the exercise.
It is worthy to note that, the number of collaborating civil society groups have also been increased to booster transparency and accountability through enhanced oversight and monitoring of interventions. “I want to mention that the Wife of the Governor Dr. Amina Abubakar Sani Bello has been very supportive personally and professionally, and have successfully mobilized wives of the 25 Council Chairmen to be closely involved in health and nutrition programs in their respective LGAs” he said.
The MNCH Week is meant to complement the present administration’s one fully functional PHC facility per ward initiative which is designed to bring basic health care services closer to the people and to reverse the unacceptable burden of maternal, newborn and child deaths in our state.
It is noteworthy that the Wife of Mr. Governor is contributing immensely to these efforts through her KaRaMaH program which is now up and running in our communities. In his words “I want to urge you all to patronize your health facilities and other service delivery points in your communities to take maximum advantage of these services for the benefit of our women and children”.
During the week healthcare services will be made available free of charge at designated Primary Health facilities across 274wards of the 25LGAs of the State :-
