Education Remain A Means To A Better Nigeria- Olu Aderounmu


The former Vice-Chancellor of Wesley University Ondo,Professor Olu Aderounmu has described education as a means to ensuring a better Nigeria and human development.

He stated this at a special lecture Organized by National Association Of Akure Students, Adeyemi college of education,Ondo.

The former Provost of Ikere College of Education who speaks on the theme “Education in Nigeria A means to an end or and itself” described education as a vital tool for human development.

There is no gain saying that education is the totality of life.

it teaches you what to do and how to do it better, many graduates now see education as an end rather than a means to make them better and productive.

If you are an entrepreneur, education should assist you to make you better and come up with better ideals to improve your business and profit oriented.

Professor Aderounmu lamented the overdependence of Nigeria graduates on white collar jobs,our graduates don’t longer consider entrepreneurship and skill acquisition as a very important tools in the face of emerging realities across the world.

Professor Aderounmu who is currently with University of medical sciences Ondo, believe that in few years from now the major export across the world would be human export in terms of enterprise and knowledge.

In UNIMED now all our students now take a course in entrepreneurship. All the graduating students are now expertise in one skills or the other.

In his own remark, the Dean Students Affairs of ACEONDO, Mr O.O Akinola urge the students to be more focused and look beyond the walls of the classroom and think of learning on skill or the other in which there is entrepreneurship course in the institution.

we are now in a competitive world where people search for solution and are willing to pay for services of those who are ready to lift their Borden.

In his opening speech the president of national association of Akure students of the institution comrade Awoyemi Gabriel Adebobola appreciated their staff advisers Mrs A.O Tugbiyele (College Deputy Registrar), Mrs Adekunle And Mr Mayowa Fasae.

He said that the topic was chosen to raise the consciousness of students to wake up from relying solely on white collar jobs which are almost in non-existance
You can imagine the astronomical rate of unemployment among our youths.

The irony of it is that thousands of graduates are turned out every year without hope in sight, we can’t therefore pretend that all is well.

Discussants at the event also included the Member of House Assembly representing Akure south constituency 1 Hon Toluwani Borokini, Chief Press Secretary to the deji of Akure Mr. Michael Adeyeye, Ayoade Kikiowo Naoss national president, Omobamidagba Temidayo Akure students national president among others

Highlights of the lecture also included the presentation of awards to the Chief Whip of Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon.Toluwani Borokini, Hon.(Dr) Abiodun Faleye representing Akure North Constituency, Architect. Temtope Adeusi, Alhaji Lai Gidado the publisher of Ebony Herald International, Engr.Bade farotimi and the General Manager of Radio Nigeria Prositive FM, Akure, Mr. Tunde Abiodun.
