“if these smugglers are not tired of losing their money, we the Nigerian Customs Service, Western Marine anti-smuggling units would never be tired of destroying their products”.
These were the words of the Customs Area Controller Boyilila Binga of Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service on Tuesday in Apapa, Lagos while destroying a total of 2,349 cartons of poultry products which was valued at N17.6 million ,with a Duty Paid Value of N23.7 million.
According to the CAC, “This is the second seizure of poultry products in one week that was destroyed by these command within 72 hours, adding that these seizures were intercepted in two different locations, Badagry and Ibeshe water ways between 21st and 22nd of September 2019.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the destruction of the poultry products at the dump site of the command, CAC Binga “warned smugglers to stop wasting huge amount of money in importing contraband goods rather they should go into legal business.
Adding that the NCS Anti- Smugglers of the Command will continue to record seizures if they fail to stop.
While advising them to diversified their businesses, Binga said they acted on information from the intelligent gathering together from their sister government agencies,
Few days before now the CAC highlighting the items recently intercepted as 2,096 cartons intercepted on the 21st and 253 cartons the next day, totalling 2,349cartons.
