The Deji of Akure Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi Odundu II, in a meeting between Akure elders and the State government on Thursday at the Cocoa conference Hall of the Governor’s office reiterated that his community houses over 40 percent of the population of ondo state and as such would wants to serve as headquarters of proposed Unimed Teaching Hospital and not an annex.
The monarch lamented that Akure is the only state capital without a Teaching Hospital, he stressed that a teaching hospital is very important here considering the growing population in the state capital.
Responding the Ondo State Deputy Governor, Hon. Agboola Ajayi allayed the fear of the people that making the State Specialist Hospital in Akure a component of the University of Medical Science Teaching Hospital in Ondo town, would denied Akure people the opportunity of sitting the Federal University of Technology Akure, Teaching Hospital and medical school in the town.
The Deputy Governor stressed that the idea of the government making all the medical villages, including Akure Specialist Hospital component of teaching hospital is because of the first set of intakes of UNIMED students who are in their 400 level and also due for their clinical soon.
He assured the community that “the government is not taking away the hospital and would ensure a fair play in the interest of all affected communities.
The deputy governor called for the support of Akure people and leaders in order to make the Teaching Hospital a dream come true.
Reacting, Akure people, requested that the Government should arrange another meeting to allow the community have an enlarged meeting and prepare a communique on the matter.

F. I. Gidado, the founder of the Muslims Ladies Circle of Nigeria, Hon. Kemisola Adesanya of Ondo State House of Assembly and many others important Akure elders.
However Akure elders were unanimous in their rejection of an Annex Status for the Akure State Specialist hospital.
