Elders of Ekwulobia village in Akuata local government area of Anambra State are concluding arrangements for the cleansing of the land over what they called a marriage taboo
The taboo is the marriage between a 27year old man Cornelius Ezebiekwe and his 16year old sister Martha Ezebiekwe who are insisting they have done nothing wrong.
The people of Ekwulobla were in disbelief when the elder brother of the couple, Paul Ezebiekwe, claimed that members of the family received a revelation about the marriage and confirmed this in an interview
Paul claimed he studied three scriptures in the Bible as an example of this type of marriage. He made reference to how the people of Judah told King David that he is bone of their bone and flesh of thier flesh. He therefore concluded that the bone being referred to in his scriptural referrence is their sister, Martha Ezebiekwe.
Cornelius Ezebiekwe who is the husband said he was told to announce to the whole family and the community about the marriage between him and his blood sister, Martha Ezebiekwe.
That set the ball in motion for a marriage ceremony to take place.
Martha who is the sister of Cornelius said if she received a further revelation the marriage will continue.
Mother of the couple, Josephine Ezebiekwe explained that the family is still trying to settle the issue with the community elders who insisted that they must cleanse the land through ritual.
An elder who spoke on behalf of the community Chief Gabriel Ezebiekwe noted that the tradition of tne town forbids marriage between two people of the same parent.
An Anglican church Clergy in the community, Rt.Rev Samuel Chukwuba said it is a devilish act and doubted the claim by the brother of the couple, Paul Ezebiekwe that he received a revelation that the couple (his brother and sister) should get married.
Rt.Rev Chukwuba noted hat it is an ignorance of the Bible teachings that made the brother of the couple to make referrence to the Bible in such act.
The debate over this marriage will surely continue for a long time but this will place Ekwulobia on the world map.
