The green Chamber lawmakers-elect who are supporting Gbajabiamila’s speakership in the 9th National Assembly have expressed readiness to negotiate with members of the opposition on their candidate’s ambition.
The group said that they had met and secured the support of more than 60 members of the PDP and other opposition political parties.
The Director General of the Femi Gbajabiamila and Ibrahim Wase Campaign Organisation, AbdulMumumi Jibril, stated this in Abuja on Sunday.
He said this at an event where lawmakers supporting the aspiration of Gbajabiamila/Wase team gathered to affirm their supports for the team.
Wase is the group’s candidate for the position of deputy Speakership.
Mumumi said, “We have more than 60 members of the PDP and other opposition members in the camp of the Gbajabiamila camp. We are ready to negotiate with everyone.
“The South-East caucus has declared its support for the Gbajabiamila group. Unlike 2015, we have made sufficient inroads into the PDP.
“The South-East caucus members said they were ready to partner us. The incoming speaker and his deputy listened to them.
“For other candidates in the race, our doors are opened for them.”
We won’t disappoint Nigerians – Gbajabiamila
Meanwhile, while addressing the lawmakers-elect, Gbajabiamila said he and his team would not disappoint Nigerians if elected.
He said result of votes would be made available to Nigerians and that their constituencies would know where their lawmakers belong.
He said, “We will not disappoint Nigerians. We will work for them and make sure that we represent their interest well.
“We will be voting electronically. We will publish the votes in major newspapers. Lawmakers’ votes will be made available to members of their constituencies.
So that they will know where they belong.”
The 9th National Assembly will be inaugurated tomorrow, and the leadership of both chambers will be elected.
