The Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has urged youths to cooperate with the present administration in the state to accelerate the pace development in their respective areas. Adding the youths should see themselves as greater beneficiaries of different projects being initiated by his administration across the state.
Arakunrin Akeredolu gave the appeal at the flag-off of the multi-billion Naira 51-kilometer Araromi Seaside/Akodo-Lekki Road project held in Araromi, Ilaje Local Government Area within the Southern Senatorial District of the state.
He said the project which is in partnership between the State Government and the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, when completed, will engender development on an exponential scale.
While describing the project as very important, the governor assured that it would not suffer the fate of others hurriedly conceived to achieve parochial political ends.
Governor Akeredolu thanked the leadership of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, for making the multi-billion Naira project a priority in its onerous assignment to ensure that the region which produces the wealth of the nation also enjoys some benefits, in concrete terms.
“It’s completion will not only be of tremendous benefits to the people of Ilaje Local Government. This road will be the only link to all Niger Delta States and, by extension, the whole country, as it will be only road connecting any of the Niger Delta States to Lagos State.
“The attendant socio-economic benefits, which the completion of this road will bring, are considerable.
“There will be an unprecedented influx of visitors to our state through this route. The sons and daughters of these communities too will no longer have excuses not to visit as frequently as possible.
“Economic activities will improve and real wealth will be created for the benefit of our people. Your cooperation will be highly appreciated, since no meaningful development can be achieved in the absence of peace”, he said.
The Governor expressed the hope that nothing will disturb all those who have been mobilized to site, and enjoin community leaders to ensure that all its visitors are well protected.
“We shall not tolerate any acts which may militate against the smooth take off, through construction to completion of this project.
“We shall sanction, heavily, anyone or a group of persons whose activities are inimical to harmonious coexistence among our people”, Governor Akeredolu warned.
Earlier, the Board Chairman of the NDDC, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN had described the iconic project as a partnership that will advance the course of development for the benefit of not only the people of the area but the Niger Deltans and Nigerians.
The Chairman who commended the commitment of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to the actualization of the project, assured that the project will completed on time for the use of the people.
Also the Managing Director/CEO of NDDC, Mr Nsima Ekere who spoke on “Breaking New Grounds” said the Araomi-Akodo/Ibeju-Lekki Road will connect the agricultural-rich communities of Araromi seaside – Igbo Erelu, Eba, Awodikora, Elefon, Ode-Omi, Imedu, Igboguna, Akodo in Ondo State with Ise in Ibeju – Lekki area of Lagos States.
He added that it was the first part of the very important coastal road project which the Federal Government has conceived to link the coastal towns with a strategic road network.
Mr Ekere expressed the belief that on completion of the road, it would cut travel time between Ondo and Lagos States to under one hour, and facilitate easy evacuation of agricultural produce from the communities.
“Today’s occasion celebrates the limitless possibilities for growth and development when state governments and partners in the region team up with the NDDC for the common good.
“Under the current Board, the Commission now wants to focus its activities on projects that will engender sustainable and comprehensive regional economic and social integration of the Niger Delta, in line with our core mandate”,he said.
In his address of welcome to the event, the Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, OSOPADEC, Hon Gbenga Edema had applauded the giant stride of Governor Akeredolu for making the project a reality, saying it would facilitate the economic development of the region.
Hon Edema prophetically declared that “the hands of Oluwarotimi Akeredolu which laid the foundation of the road shall also commission and this the people answered”Amen”.
In the goodwill message on behalf of the Royal Fathers in Ilaje and Ese-Odo Local Government Areas, the Olugbo of Ugboland, Oba Frederick Akinruntan expressed the joy of the people which according him knew no bounds as the event of the day symbolized the fulfillment of the campaign promise of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to the people of the area.
He described Governor Akeredolu as a rare politician who in just one year in office has secured the confidence of the people of Ondo State in view of his performance and translation of promises to actions for the benefits of the people of the Sunshine State.
The Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, for the multi-billion Naira 51-kilometer Araromi Seaside/Akodo-Lekki Road project was signed last year, on 5th April, 2017, between Ondo State Government and the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
