The Court of Appeal sitting at Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State this morning ordered that the Ekiti state governor’s account with Zenith Bank be frozen forthwith.
The court today set aside the earlier judgement of the Federal High Court, Ado-Ekiti delivered by Justice Taiwo Taiwo in December 13,2016 to the effect that EFCC lacks the power to freeze the governor’s account.
The appellate court in a unanimous decision, and in the lead judgement read by Justice Justice J.S Ikeyegha set aside the lower court’s decision and ordered the account frozen.
It would be recalled that upon the judgement of the lower court, the governor withdrew the sum of N5m and transferred the sum of N75 million to his lawyer, Mr Mike Ozekhome SAN.
Also recall that Governor Fayose also circulated pictures of a top management team of Zenith Bank Plc begging him over the bank’s role in the whole controversy.
The governor says Zenith Bank helped in funding his election in 2014, in his bid to deny any allegation by the government linking him to a $2.1 billion arms money reportedly diverted by the former president Goodluck Jonathan administration.
Earlier Governor Fayose accuses the bank of lying to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission about the transaction, and his public comments on the case are believed aimed at getting even with the bank’s leaders.
