Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, AAUA students are now on streets of Akure, protesting hike in their school fees.
The students are marching from Oba Adesida to Alagbaka.
The protesters are chanting anti- Ondo state government’s songs & armed with different placards to demand that Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu should immediately reverse the increase in their tuition.
The State government and the AAUA governing council had last week approved increase in the school’s tuition from average of #30,000 to #180,000/#200,000.
In an interview with newsmen, the chairman, AAUA governing council, Dr Tunji Abayomi said the university was facing financial crunch and if the tuition was not increased, it could lead to the collapse of the university in no distance time.
Dr Abayomi accompanied by the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Igbekele Ajibefun, called on the students and parents to show understanding in order to move the school to a greater height.
Meanwhile one of the students told us that police men open fire at the protesting students and one them sustained a serious leg injury.
