Hajiya Maryam Garba Bagel, Director General (DG) Bauchi state sustainable development goals (SDG) has unveiled the massive transformation recorded in some key sectors of the economy by Governor Bala Mohammed of the state within his one year in office.

Speaking on the first one year achievements of the governor, Bagel who has served in the 8th Assembly of the state said the governor has no doubt through SDG, carried out numerous developmental projects spread across the state.

“Through the SDG and within the first year of Governor Bala, we have executed numerous projects worth over N555 million”. She said.

According to her, the projects consist of ; constructions and renovations of hospitals, supply of medical equipment, primary schools, supply of schools equipment and instructional materials as well as supply of ambulances to some hospitals in the state.

The Director General added that the agency has carried out some major projects in the state pointed out that more economy driven opportunities have been identified for the state in some agencies that are making some interventions relevant to the SDGs that some states have been benefiting.

Hajiya Bagel who put the amount used for purchasing of the ambulances for some hospitals in the state at N55 million added that all the projects executed by the SDG are exceptional

Bagel further explained that they have extended the water supply to towns and the immediate host community where such facilities are situated and informed that drinking water has also been provided for animals in the host communities.

To ensure productivity, Bagel said her office has Desk Officers and experts who go out to supervise projects before approval is given for any additional payment to a contractor.

“We had about 14 projects and then from the 14 we had 6 hospitals and then we have about 5 schools while others are supplies of equipment. We have also in the cause of our work found out that there are some abandoned projects in the last administration, some of the 2015 and 2017 projects that were started and later abandoned. Even though the money is no where to be traced in the office but we have been able to establish that there jobs were abandoned.

We have developed a 4- year strategic plan for the SDG initially and in the development of this strategic plan we have brought together stakeholders like our desk officers from all the 20 local governments, desk officers from the relevant ministries and agencies in the state and then the development partners, NGOs, CSOs and we developed the strategic plan based on the prioritized plan.We prioritize SDG goals that are highly needed in the state and also based on the strategic plans of the government.”

Along the line also, Governor Bala’s administration has developed a roadmap which mandated every agency to submit its strategy  We have developed a 4- year strategic plan for the SDG initially and in the development of this strategic plan we have brought together stakeholders like our desk officers from all the 20 local governments, desk officers from the relevant ministries and agencies in the state and then the development partners, NGOs, CSOs and we developed the strategic plan based on the prioritized plan.We prioritize SDG goals that are highly needed in the state and also based on the strategic plans of the government.”
